A Word from the Chef:
After a short and pleasant flight with Norse Atlantic, I made my way to my connecting flight with British Airways. I’d never been to Gatwick before, and the transit experience wasn’t exactly painless, as I had to enter the UK. Thankfully, the e-gates were plentiful and had no wait. Norse and BA operated out of the same terminal at Gatwick, so at least that helped.
I was a little surprised to find out that BA operated a separate first class lounge at Gatwick, given Gatwick is more leisure-focused. Then again, BA first class isn’t exactly first class so…
Plat Principal:
The UK has no outbound immigration, and thanks to the fast track, I was able to re-enter the airside within minutes. The British Airways First Lounge at Gatwick was located on the same level as security, so make sure to not take the escalators down to the main concourse. Once you reach the reception, business class lounge was located to the right, while first class was to the left.
The lounge had an airy feel to it, due to its substantial ceiling height and massive windows all around.
There were various seating options throughout the lounge. One thing I immediately loved more than its Heathrow counterparts was how uncrowded it was.
The inner half of the lounge was the dining area, with a champagne (Henriot Brut Souverain) bar, drink stations and some rather underwhelming breakfast items. I don’t believe there was à la carte dining.
In the corner by the entrance was a small room with additional seating.
I just had some sparkling water and caught up on my laptop.
WiFI was fast and free. I thought it was kinda funny that BA used Virgin WiFi, lol.
Before boarding my flight to Dubrovnik, I asked for a shower, which was located within the business class lounge. The lounge receptionist kindly brought me over there. There was no wait whatsoever.
These showers were awesome. They looked nothing like the hospital showers in the Heathrow lounges. The water was sufficiently hot, and the ventilation was fantastic.
Digestif:
Overall, I thought the BA First Lounge Gatwick was serviceable. I enjoyed having a dedicated space that wasn’t filled to the brim like every other lounge these days. But other than that, the lounge was fine. I don’t think BA actually operates first class out of Gatwick anymore? So for oneworld emerald members, this setup was much appreciated.
