Review - Cathay Pacific The Deck First Class Lounge Hong Kong (HKG)
Cathay Pacific The Deck First Class Lounge Hong Kong (HKG)
February, 2026
A Word from the Chef:
After my Cathay flight from JFK, I spent a night in Hong Kong and was back at the airport the next morning for my connecting flight to Chengdu. Just in case you haven’t heard it enough from me - Hong Kong is my favorite airport in the world because of Cathay’s lounges. Currently, Cathay is renovating one of its flagship first class lounges, the Wing. Therefore, it transformed a business class lounge, the Deck, to be the temporary first class alternative.
When I was at the Deck, I was told that the new Wing first class lounge would reopen in April. It’s unclear whether the Deck will remain a first class lounge or return to a business lounge. Overall, the Deck served its purpose as a capacity boost to the current lounge situation. It’s right past immigration, so it’s better positioned for customers originating in Hong Kong. I wouldn’t choose it over the Bridge first class lounge, though.
Plat Principal:
The Deck has been opened and closed quite a few times in its existence. In its current form, it features the signature lounge design that you’ll find in many updated Cathay lounges worldwide.
Upon entry, there was an immediate seating area in the center of the lounge, with traditional armchairs and sofas.
Behind the seating area, there was a small buffet setup along the wall. All Cathay’s first class lounges have à la carte dining, so this is just meant to supplement.
Walking past the buffet was a bar room of sorts to the right, with a fully stocked alcohol selection and baristas. This room had standing room only. It felt like the most “makeshift” part of the lounge.
The bar menu reads as follows:
As you can imagine from the name of the lounge, there is indeed a deck, overlooking the gate area underneath. This area primarily consists of communal dining tables.
As a staple of Cathay’s lounges, a noodle bar could be found just before the deck.
In addition to the evergreen noodle soup items, there were some new dishes that I haven’t seen in Cathay lounges before, such as cheung fun and vermicelli.
I was greeted by one of the staff who showed me to a booth. When I arrived shortly before 8am, the lounge was almost full. The crowd did die down massively at around 8:30.
I was quickly presented with a menu and a water of choice.
To drink, I had a oat milk flat white. Maybe it’s the proximity to Australia, I’ve always thought highly of Cathay’s coffee.
You already know I got some dan dan noodles. I switched things up a bit and tried the shrimp cheung fun, which tasted so light and fresh. Even the lettuce inside was incredibly sweet.
For a smaller lounge, I was surprised to see a suite of showers on offer. Furthermore, there was no wait during the morning rush. The showers themselves should look familiar to many.
Digestif:
For an interim solution, the Deck is perfectly pleasant. It doesn’t quite have the bells and whistles of the proper first class lounges, but that’s to be expected. I’m really excited to check out the new Wing first class lounge once it reopens. Everyone at Cathay has been so tight-lipped about the future of those iconic cabanas, which makes me all the more curious!
