Air China Domestic First and Business Class Lounge Chengdu Shuangliu (CTU)

A Word from the Chef:
Prior to my Air China flight to Shanghai, I visited the Air China First and Business Class Lounge at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport. I’ve been coming to this lounge since I was 15, and not one thing has changed. I guess another way to look at it is how well the lounge has held up, lol.
Plat Principal:
Air China has a big presence in Chengdu, given its merger with China Southwest Airlines at the beginning of the millennium. The lounge separated into two sections, with one dedicated for Air China’s frequent flyers, and the other for first and business class passengers. I’ve been to both, and the differences were negligible. In this post, I’ll be reviewing the first and business class lounge.
Check-in was efficient, and I was directed to turn right. The receptionist reminded me that it would take 5 minutes to get to my departure gate, which was a nice touch.
I first walked past a room that said “VIP Lounge” on the door. It didn’t look markedly better than the rest of the lounge, nor was there any indication for entry eligibility. It wasn’t staffed either, so it looked like anyone could just walk in.
The main lounge was straight ahead. Honestly, for a lounge that’s more than half of my age, it didn’t look too bad.
The center of the lounge were the bar and the buffet.
There was a myriad of things on offer, including hot dishes, packaged snacks, instant noodles, all kinds of drinks and freshly made noodles. You definitely won’t leave hungry, but don’t expect anything particularly gourmet.
The restroom was all the way at the back of the lounge. There was no shower here, given it’s a domestic lounge.
Digestif:
The big three in China are very similar to the big three in the US. In the sense that they’re so big so none of them really tries very hard. It’s a perfectly okay lounge, although I wouldn’t arrive early for it.
